Bio Technology : July 2009
AusBioEVENTS AusBiotech launches BioProCourses professional development Over the last and next 25 years, biotechnology is an exciting sector of the Australian and global economy with strong underlying growth, creating jobs for a skilled workforce. In response, it makes sense for Australia’s industry association to play a leading role in supporting skills development. AusBiotech has created a specific division to encourage skills development – both for existing industry participants and for those looking to enter the industry. AusBiotech is pleased to introduce four professional development services under the banner: BioProCourses Partnering with industry-experienced specialists, sought after courses are developed and offered. Biotech licensing, biotech IP management and induction to biotech for the non-scientist, are examples. Industry supplier-sponsored info-briefings Industry participants often want to know more about a product or service type but prefer to get that insight in a non-sales environment. BioProCourses offer leading industry suppliers the opportunity to develop sponsored industry breakfasts or information sessions. Industry-specific (public) course directory Any publicly funded university, college or registered training organisation (RTO) that has an ongoing course offering can apply for listing on the web-based directory. A nominal listing and annual fee is charged for qualifying applicants. Industry course providers directory Some training and coaching specialists who conduct customised programs have adapted them to a science business environment. BioProCourses is pleased to help make biotech industry participants aware of these resources with its web-based directory. A nominal listing and annual fee is charged for qualifying programs. Members benefit In most cases, AusBiotech members are offered a reduced course fee, adding further value to their annual membership subscription. Members also receive advance notice of many upcoming courses, enabling them to take up places before courses fill. Call for expressions of interest The calendar directory of BioProCourses is now building. If you seek information on your course being listed, register your expression of interest, email@example.com or 03 9828 1400, and ask for ’course directory listing information’. Request a course If there is an area of professional development you would like to see AusBiotech BioProCourses offer, email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 03 9828 1400, and if enough similar requests come in, we’ll look to find or run a suitable program. Request course information Current or industry participants wanting to receive information on industry-specific professional development can add their details to the mailing list on pd@ausbiotech. org or 03 9828 1400. 48 Australasian BioTechnology Volume 19 • Number 2 • July 2009
